Hello Class K-101,

 

On Thursday, September 23rd, we will be holding our Meet the Staff and Parent Curriculum Conferences on all grade levels. Please plan to attend these important conferences. The purpose of these meetings is to present to parents early in the year the opportunity to meet their children’s’ teachers and get an overview of the goals for the grade in all subject areas, homework policy, materials used for instruction, remote learning protocols and other important items specific to each grade.

 

On Thursday, September 23rd, our classroom will have our scheduled REMOTE meetings on GOOGLE MEET.

K-101 Class Routines

Homework Folder: Please check your child’s Homework Folder every night. School notices, homework, behavior calendar and notices will be placed in this folder. Please sign any notices and return them the next day. 

Your child’s folder is labeled on the inside with “Keep at Home” and “Return to School” to make the paperwork inside the folder easier for you to go through every night. Also, after checking your child’s homework, please sign his/her homework so that we know that you have reviewed it with them. Your child is responsible for returning this folder daily. 

Homework: The assignments will be sent home in your child’s folder and posted for the week on Class Dojo. However, do not let your child do all of the homework in one night. Your child will have homework that reflects what we have learned in class that day. Please ensure your child completes their homework every night. This will set a great example for the many school years ahead. 

***Please do not do your child’s homework for him/her. We are not looking for perfect work. If the homework is not your child’s own work, it will be marked incomplete and need to be completed again. 

Attendance: Your child must attend school on a daily basis. Excessive absence and lateness will reflect on your child's report card. Please plan family vacations during scheduled school closings. 

Transportation: Please make sure your child knows which mode of transportation he or she is taking to go home. If your child is a walker, please make sure he/she knows who is picking him/her up that day. For your child’s safety, a written note is necessary for any changes in transportation. 

Your child will only be released to adults that are on their emergency cards in the main office. If there is a last minute change in the person picking up your child, please call the school at 718-351-5454 to let me know. If we are not aware of the change, we cannot release your child to the person. 

Discipline: Behavior is one of the most important elements of the school day. We promote a positive environment by modeling appropriate behavior and setting classroom rules. 

In order for learning to take place, good behavior is a must. We use a method of a traffic light for the children to understand their behavior each day. 

1. Green means your child had a fabulous day. Everyone begins each new day on green. 
2. Yellow is a warning. It means something went wrong. However, your child can go back to green after correcting the issue. 
3. Red means your child was unable to correct the issues that took place in class that day. He/She will be spoken to regarding the behavior and contact with parents will follow. 

We allow children to move back to green if they improve their day. For example, if a student made a poor choice in the morning, but had worked hard and tried his/her best during the afternoon, they can return to green and end the day with a smile! 

***Please remind your child of good behavior every day. 

****Behavior Calendar: Your child will color in an entry on a calendar to show you his/her behavior for each day. You need to sign each day’s entry. It is VERY important that you discuss his/her behavior, good or bad, each day in order to help make our classroom a positive environment.
