Welcome to 3rd Grade!

Welcome to Third Grade.  We are looking forward to a happy and productive school year for your child.  To help ensure a wonderful and successful year, the following is an overview of our expectations.

Attendance/Punctuality:  It is important that your child be on time to school every day.  The children are picked up from the Auditorium at 8:00 a.m.  First period begins promptly at 8:00 a.m.  Lateness will result in your child missing instructional time.

Dismissal:

  •        All children will be dismissed at 2:14 p.m.
  •        All third grade classes are dismissed through the Main entrance doors.
  •        If there will be a change in your child’s regular dismissal procedure please notify the teacher in writing or call the school. (We cannot accept any notifications via DOJO.)

Absences:

  •       If your child is absent, please send in a note on the day they return to school. The note should include the date(s) of absence and reason.

Birthday Parties:

  •       Please provide notice to the teachers one week in advance.
  •       Parties will be celebrated in the classroom, in the afternoons, at 1:30 when possible. They should last about 20 minutes.
  •       Goody bags may not be distributed.
  •       Ask the teacher about any classroom allergies.
  •       Parents may attend. Siblings are not permitted.

Homework Policy:

  •        Assigned Monday - Thursday
  •        Must be signed by a parent
  •        Parents will be notified when two homework assignments are missed.
  •        Please check your child’s HW folder daily for any important notices.

* HW should not be a chore!  If your child is spending a lot of time or struggling with the HW, just jot us a note!

Homework will always be based on the lesson that was taught that day.

Math Homework -  On most nights, 2 pages of Math.  If your child does not understand the homework, please notify the teachers by circling the question your child had difficulty with.

ELA Homework – It is important that your child is practicing the skills and strategies taught throughout the school year. Your child should be reading 20-30 minutes independently each night.

** When we get closer to the state test, we will be assigning material to help prepare them.

State Tests

This year in 3rd grade there are 2 New York State Exams that your child will be taking.

  •      ELA – April 11 - 12
  •      Math- May 7 - 8

We always tell the students…
